The Temple by H.P. Lovecraft is one of his weirder tales in my opinion. It was meant to be a satirical take on the attitude of World War 1 German Officers, and honestly I wasn't alive back then so I can't say that it holds up. What is interesting about is its ties to two of his other works. The Call of Cthulhu and Dagon both seem to have some fleeting reference in this story. So it is considered a piece of the Cthulhu Mythos, but just barely.
