From the title page:
"First In, Last Out" is dedicated to Joe Turner, Valley High School graduate and former director of the VHS Jazz Orchestra. It is the fulfillment of Joe’s wish a jazz composition be commissioned in honor of his former student, Brett Neal. Brett was a talented and dedicated drummer for Jazz Orchestra who was tragically killed in a car accident, August 20, 2016. Joe passed away, April 11, 2018, following a long battle with lymphoma. Raejean Bear (in memory of Joe's beginning band teacher, Keith Bear), David Cunningham, Larry Green, William Bird, Tony Garmoe, and Bob Long, Joe’s former band teachers from the West Des Moines Community School District, are honored to support Joe’s vision. Kyle Engelhardt and David Kobberdahl, Joe’s close friends, are recognized for their invaluable support in seeing this project to fruition.
