The Men's 800m looks set to be a procession for Kenya's David Rudisha, the world record holder and the only runner in the race to have run under 1:40 and he looks practically unstoppable as he bids to win his first Olympic gold medal.
The current World Champion is top priced at 1/11 (bet £110 to make £10 profit) with Betfred and totesport to win gold and while he may not offer any value to those betting on the event, that price does seem about right for a man who is head and shoulders above the rest of the field over two laps. There has been some speculation that Rudisha will attempt to break his world record of 1:41.01 on what has proved to be a pretty fast track at the Olympic Stadium. He can be backed at best odds of 7/1 with Skybet and Bwin to break the world record, whilst Paddy Power quote best odds of 1/14 that there will be no world record run in the final. Rudisha is the fastest 800m runner ever, so must have a chance of breaking the record, but 7/1 does look a bit short when you consider how tough breaking 1:41 will be.
On current form it is clearly hard to look past Rudisha, but Ethiopia's teenage sensation Mohammed Aman could well be the one to give the imperious Kenyan some trouble. Aman qualified fastest for the final and looks capable of running a massive personal best to at least give Rudisha something to worry about.
