Getting quickly to the shuttle is one thing, but the especially the movement during the shot is crucial for controlling the shuttle, hitting with power, and/or getting back out of the corner to be ready for the next shot. In this tutorial we will have a look at:
- The footwork techniques in the corners
- why and when you should use these techniques
- why rhythm, timing and a quick recovery is so important
- how to practice all that with easy exercises
--- Additional tipps -------------------------------------------------------------------
Besides the points in the video the timing of your landing is also an important point. There are three possibilites:
1) Landing before you hit the shuttle
2) Landing after you hit the shuttle
3) Landing and hitting around the same time
Most players think that you usually shold use Nr. 1 in combination with lunges to have more stability and 2) in combination with jumps, to hit the shuttle as high as possible but that brings some problems and indeed topplayers mainly land and hit almost in the same moment. When you put you foot down way before hitting the shuttle during a lunge, you have the problem, that you have to wait for the shot, before you can push out of the corner, otherwise you have a lot of movement in your body during the shot, something you definitly want to avoid to have more control. As I explain in the video you only should stay in the corner for a very short moment and try to push out right away so to do that, try to land the same time you hit.
When you hit the shuttle in the air for example when you do a jump you can hit the shuttle higher than normal, but you also have to wait for the landing until you can recover. That can give you a lot of trouble for recovery. That is the reason, why good players also very often hit when the land after a shot, to be able to get out of the corner right away.
