As a longboarder, finding the right setup for your board is crucial to getting the most out of your ride. One important aspect of this setup is the bushings on your trucks. After experimenting with different bushing setups on my Gullwing sidewinder trucks, I've found a combination that gives me the stability I need for faster downhill longboarding while also creating a surfy dive feeling in the turns.
The problem with the standard skateboard bushings on Sidewinder trucks is that they tend to be a little soft and slide out from the back, especially at higher speeds. This can be a real problem when you're trying to maintain control of your board. To solve this issue, I started experimenting with different bushing durometers to find the right combination for my riding style and weight.
That's when I discovered Dime Bag Hardware. Their bushing pack comes in different harnesses varying from 88A to 98A durometers, giving me the ability to dial in exactly what I need in each part of the truck. By putting 96A bushings board side and 94A bushing roadside on the back trucks, and 93A bushings board side and 88A bushings roadside on the front trucks, I've achieved a setup that gives me the stability I need for faster downhill longboarding while also creating a surf skate feeling in the turns.
The reason this setup works so well is because it creates a controlled lean and better dive in the turns, giving more control to the rider. By having different bushings on the board side and roadside, more control is added to turns. The softer bushings roadside compress first, and the harder board side bushings engage later into the turn. This creates a more surfy dive feeling in the turns and the board doesn't feel like there's no resistance under you as you lean into the turn.
I've been enjoying this setup on my longboard, and it's definitely worth a try, especially if you're a bigger rider looking for a more stable ride. Experiment with different bushing durometers to find the right mix for your style and weight. Dime Bag Hardware offers a great option for this, and I've included a link in the description so you can pick up some bushings for yourself.
In conclusion, finding the right bushing setup for your longboard is crucial to getting the most out of your ride. After experimenting with different durometers, I've found that the Dime Bag Hardware bushing pack allows me to dial in exactly what I need in each part of the truck to create the stability and surfy dive feeling I desire.
