✨ How captivating is it to watch silver melt?
Hatton Jewellery Institute's Course Director, Jan Preece, demonstrates the art of melting silver to make jewellery. Using old silver scraps, Jan melts the pieces together in a silver heating process following these essential tips 💡:
1 - Pour silver scraps and borax flux in a crucible dish to melt the silver. The borax will protect the metal from oxidizing.
2 - Use low torch heat when soldering the silver pieces together.
3 - When the melted silver solidifies, it's important to repeat the annealing process: this softens the metal and squeezes out gas particles to produce a better quality metal
4 - Use the pickle to remove access flux in the metal
5 - Use the tumbler for a bright and shiny finish
