The one leg squat is an advancement on the Trendelburg test as the easier test is often only positive in severely impaired patients.
In this test the assessor is looking for medial knee movement/shaking or pelvic drop of the non-weight bearing side. Positive results indicate a lack of pelvic stability which can be due to a combination of weakness or inactivity in the gluteals and inner core. This movement pattern is associated with increased injuries the the feet knees, ankle and back. It is a common risk factor for:
-patellofemoral syndrome
-Shin splints
-patella tendonitis
-early knee degeneration/osteoarthritis
-Bursitiis in the hip
-Runner's knee/ITB friction syndrome
A structured program designed by your physiotherapist can assist to correct these weaknesses to address injuries and boost your sports performance.
