In 1977 Danny Clark came from 1/2 lap behind at 2 laps to go to win the prestigious Burnie Wheel race in what is still remembered by many as the greatest ever finish to a bike race. The end of this video pays tribute to the man and the race but with a preview of so much more about the great man and cyclist who dominated track racing all over the World.

In 1991 as a 20 year old I rode my first Xmas Carnivals in Tasmania and won the Devonport Wheelrace from scratch and had to beat two Olympians Danny Clark Oam Oly and Wayne McCarney to take the prize.
That ride got me an invite from Danny who was the greatest 6 day rider of that era to race a Madison with him in Launceston which we went on to win.
Four years later we rode the first ever Madison at a World Championships together in Bogotá Columbia in 1995. We placed equal 3rd on points but lost on a count back. I was 24 years old, Danny was 44 and without a doubt I was the weak link of the team.
Around that time Stuart O'Grady and myself were doing some of our first 6 day races in Europe and Danny was coaching us through those all night races of pain. He was literally telling us when to attack, who to follow, who would attack next. It was a magician at work on a bicycle!
If it were not for those experiences with Danny Clark, I could not have won that Sydney Madison with Scott McGrory and so for that I will always be in debt to the greatest track rider I’ve ever met. Danny Clark, thank you 🙏
