What it looks like when I'm developing moves and drills. It's creative play time so really I'm just messing around - when some of the best riffs are created. Most times when I'm meditating these moves just spontaneously come to mind then I'll write them or draw them out in my journal. I'll then try them here off the ice before mastering them on the ice. What's your process for developing moves? Give these ones a try! I think they might best be used in confined quarters like close to the boards as you face the defender head on. Keep your feet planted wide while you're moving fairly slow or near stationary because there's so much puck handling but always exit with speed. Here's a breakdown of each of these ones:
- Toe Drag Off Leg Fake Shot Exit to Forehand Side - Toe drag into your wind up, fake an off leg shot then exit the deke by stepping out to the forehand side.
- Forehand L-321's - Angle your body language as if you're going to step around the defender to your forehand side, stickhandle three times to add some deceptive flair on that side. Bring the puck to the middle of your body, stickhandle twice to offer a fake to the backhand then back to the forehand before slipping the puck into your backhand back pocket with a backhand toe drag. This helps to protect the puck as you step around the defender to your backhand side.
- Backhand L-321's - Same pattern inverted.
- Backhand 7-21's - Fake stepping around the defender to your backhand side, stickhandle twice quickly. Drive hard to the forehand side as a fake then forehand tuck the puck into your backhand side back pocket. Exit to the backhand side with speed!
- Forehand 7-21's - Same pattern inverted.
