The former Walter Payton Award winner, for the top player in the FCS, doesn't have the largest sample size but does have the arm strength, IQ, and athleticism to warrant an early draft selection. As a redshirt freshman, Lance led the Bison to 16 straight victories, including the FCS championship game where he made some game-changing plays. Having not thrown 1 interception the entire season, Lance was also the recipient of the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in the FCS.
Due to the unforeseen circumstances that the COVID-19 pandemic has placed upon the world, NDSU chose to play in the spring as opposed to the fall. However, the Bison did suit up for a contest in October as a means for Lance to showcase his ability. The multi-talented QB is a rarity given his savviness and wherewithal to recognize defensive coverages at such a young age and let his arm strength take care of the rest.
