Australia is being urged to do more to tackle climate change, with Fiji Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama revealing he has urged Anthony Albanese to “go further” for the Pacific region.
The push comes as leaders head into their final day of the Pacific Island Forum, where they will have closed-door discussions over climate change and regional security issues.
Australian Security Climate Leaders Group’s Chris Barrie said climate change is “inevitable” if we don’t do anything to prevent it.
“I’m afraid to say for my grandchildren, that’s not the kind of future that I would want for them,” he told Sky News Australia.
He said he takes climate change as a “very serious national security threat”.
