In 1452, a powerful volcanic eruption split a large island in two, forming the modern day Tongoa and Epi islands. This occurred at the Kuwae volcano, most likely being responsible for the so-called "1452 mystery eruption", assigned a volcanic explosivity index rating of a 7. However, islands splitting in two or more pieces due to a volcanic eruption has occurred before such as Krakatau in 540 CE and Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha'apai in 2022. #short #shorts
