FX Airguns Crown MKII Arrow slinging for venison and trophy bucks baby! In this episode of UpNorthAirgunner, we go on an EPIC Deer in Velvet Hunt at Ultimate Whitetails Ranch in Northern Michigan. This isn't just any kind of hunt though. It is August here in Northern Michigan and the Deer antlers are still in velvet and the antlers are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. One of the best parts about this trip was being able to hang out with my good buddy Oscar Haugen, owner of GRS Rifle Stocks!
It is a race against time for Oscar and I to get some trophies down before they start to rub their velvet off and a race against time to get them dressed out and the venison in the freezer before the warmer weather spoils the meat. In this hunt, we show the precision of the FX Airguns Arrow kit and the insane amount of flat trajectory and Deer harvesting power of a 6.5 Creedmoor bedded in the GRS Bifrost stock.
I set out on this hunt to showcase saddle hunting from a tree with airguns. Make sure to check out American Airgunner TV episode and upcoming YouTube content where we take a deeper dive into saddle hunting and some broadhead testing that changed my mind about what I should be running with my FX Airguns Arrow slingers.
My tool of choice for this hunt was the FX Crown MKII with Arrow Kit slinging 125 grain broadheads at 250 FPS. There is nothing like dangling from a tree above 20 feet having 360 degrees of maneuverability around the tree to take the perfect shot. I was able to test out the new Latitude Method 2 hunting saddle and it is fricken AWESOME and CRAZY comfortable!
The FX Airguns Crown MKII is quite possible the most versatile airgun in the FX Airguns line up and possibly the industry. The ability to convert it from a airgun pellet or slug barrel kit to an arrow slinging platform at insanely high levels of precision, you just might have the perfect airgun. This isn't just hyperbole. Dusty Powers used the FX Crown MKII to win the top spot at the Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge this year and took home $20,000. So the level of precision at the highest levels of competition is proven.
During this trip I was able to test out GRS Rifle Stocks in various configurations. GRS Rifle stocks makes stock inlets fitted for dozens of the leading brands of firearms in the industry. From rimfire to centerfire and FX Airguns, these rifle stocks are about as close to perfection as you can get.
Hanging out with Oscar this week, I got a chance to see his skill of shooting and hunter knowledge first hand. He is one awesome shooter and human being in general. His skills are top tier and have come from a life dedicated to shooting and hunting combined with his military service. Oscar was called into the Norwegian Army in 2000 for the one-year mandatory national service and then enrolled in a specialist branch of the Norwegian National Guard just two days after ending his mandatory service, working - for 3 years - as an instructor of National Guard's Sharpshooters; he served as a QRF Sharpshooter Team Leader for 7 years, ending his contract in 2010. (Oscar remains active in the National Guard, with the rank of Company First Sergeant.)
