Ep. 77 PACIFIC NW MOSAIC LANDSCAPE, Cutting & Packing a mosaic on mesh project, Grouting three blue and white mosaic houses & 2 Mosaic Cardinals 2 ways!
I first work on the moody sky for the Pacific NW mosaic landscape entitled "Resilience." Fitting bits around the tree limbs takes a bit of time, but the rest of the mosaic comes together quickly. One tip is to work up and down, back and forth, so there is not a weird skinny row of glass at the top.
Then I grout the little blue and white house mosaics with wreaths. I use gray sanded grout, and then paint the edges and back with gray acrylic paint to match.
Next, I finally clean up my table for the next project. Resilience is cut apart and packed up so I can ship it across the country to my friend in Kansas. The mosaic is 30" high and I divide it into roughly 10" increments. I decide it is necessary to add a layer of sticky shelf paper to keep all the pieces in place. Then I cut foam core a few inches bigger than the mosaic sections so they will fit neatly in the box. They are taped in place, wrapped in bubble wrap, labeled, and stacked between layers of insulation, with a tab to help pull them out. Tile samples are sent back, installation instructions and a note for my friend! Whew!
Then two wooden standing mosaic cardinals are finished with different treatments. One has irridized stained glass and the other uses Illuminations tiles.
