Indonesia defeated Thailand 5-2 in a brawl-filled men's soccer final to win gold at the Southeast Asian Games on Tuesday in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Trouble erupted as time was expiring with Indonesia leading 2-1.
The referee blew the whistle for a free kick with just seconds remaining, but Indonesia mistook it for the final whistle and began to celebrate.
Their golden moment wasn't to come as Thailand equalised on the subsequent free kick and brawls erupted on the team benches.
Indonesia opened extra time with a goal, which was followed by more brawling and red cards for players and staff as police tried to retstore order.
Thailand were eventually reduced to seven men on the pitch due to ed cards and injuries as ten-man Indonesia added two more goals for a 5-2 final.
It was a chaotic ending to a 32-year gold medal drought for Indonesia, which won its third SEA Games title but first since 1991.
