Emmanuel Hieaux, composer
He graduated in both music and literature, studying the piano at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Musique in Paris and majoring in French and English literature at Nanterre University. From then on, the links between music and other forms of artistic expression have formed the basis of several of his works. His meeting with the pianist, Yvonne Lafarge, proved to be a decisive moment in his career, as did studying composition with Jacques Castérède, a teacher at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. Ever since childhood, Schumann and Ravel have ranked among Emmanuel Hieaux's favorite composers. Later on, he found Berg and Bartók particularly inspiring. In 1990 and 1991, Emmanuel Hieaux was Laureate of the Fondation Laurent-Vibert based at Lourmarin Castle in Provence and became a member of the Association du Trityque in Paris. Emmanuel Hieaux has since been commissioned on many occasions by soloists or musical ensembles, for example l'Ensemble Rhapsodes, le Trio Pangea, le Quatuor Kocian, the violinist André Pons-Valdès and the pianists Ivan Klansky, Richard Damas and Bruno Belthoise. His compositions have been recorded and played in France and abroad (Canada, the Czech Republic, Chili, Portugal, etc.) and broadcast on France Musique, Radio Classique Québec, Prague Classic FM, as well as on Antena 2 in Lisbon.
Adolfo Rascón Carbajal, violin
Adolfo Rascón Carbajal was born in Oviedo (Spain). He initially studied violin with María Jesús Carbajal, going on to graduate brilliantly in violin and chamber music from the Oviedo Conservatory. He completed his training at the University of Graz (Austria) and the Queen Sophia Higher Music School in Madrid, where he received the Best Chamber Music Student award in 2003. A winner of the Kunstuniversität Graz (KUG) Young Musicians Competition and the "Ciudad de Oviedo" Violin Competition, Carbajal cites Alexander Vasiliev, Maighread McCrann, José Luis García Asensio, Vicente Huerta, Rainer Schmidt, Walter Levin, Ferenc Rados and Emmanuel Hieaux as formative musical influences. In addition to developing original artistic projects with the Pangea Trio, of which he is a founder member, he performs as a soloist with the Principality of Asturias Symphony Orchestra, the KUG Orchestra and the Evaristo Valle Chamber Orchestra, and regularly takes part in recordings for the radio stations RDP-Antena 2 (Portugal) and RNE Clasica (Spain). He also teaches chamber music at the Oviedo Conservatory and has played violin in the Albeniz and Valente Quartets, performing in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Spain.
Bruno Belthoise, piano
Concert artist, composer, and improviser, Bruno Belthoise is Lauréat of the Fondation Laurent-Vibert, and winner of the Fondation de France prize in 1988. He received his Diplôme Supérieur d'Exécution from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris in 1989 and in 1997 was ADAMI's "Classical Music Revelation of the Year". A founding member of the Pangéa Trio, many contemporary composers have dedicated their works to him, among them Emmanuel Hieaux, Alexandre Delgado, Bernard de Vienne, and Sérgio Azevedo. Invited to perform at festivals in France and abroad, his repertoire ranges from Bach to present-day composers. During his artistic career he has recorded more than fifteen CDs. Inspired by his passion for telling stories at the piano, he has narrated and performed for dozens of young audiences, and recorded albums for La Librairie Sonore de Frémeaux & Associés. As a researcher, he has re-discovered the music of Portuguese composers, and given recital/conferences internationally. His efforts have been supported by several important institutions, such as the Gulbenkian Foundation, the Camões Institute, the Portuguese Ministry of Culture and Antena 2 (Portuguese radio).
