Genealogy has a special place for many, likely because it is the longing and desire to link ourselves with the past, something that binds us to history, life’s greater meaning and our collective culture. Story-telling is a natural part of who we are as humans, and being able to place ourselves within the spectrum of past events can be reassuring and provides a way of making abstract history real.
The 1990 Institute is pleased to present this Fireside Chat “The Past is Always Present: Preserving family roots with technology” with 1990 Institute’s Vice Chair Brian Wong and My China Roots Founder & CEO Huihan Lie.
As part of 1990 Institute’s programming honoring National Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, this webinar featured Brian and Huihan discussing why understanding one’s own heritage is important in finding your own sense of belonging, how Chinese genealogy traditions are unique, and how technology is playing a distinct role in uncovering family history, culture and genealogy for Overseas Chinese and Chinese Americans.
