Originally built in the middle of the 15th century for Luca Pitti, the Pitti Palace eventually became the residence of the Medici family and the seminal royal palace in Europe. The Medici enhanced the grandeur of their palace by transforming the land behind it into the sumptuous Boboli Gardens, which today is one of Florence's most popular sites!
