Golf drill to check your shoulder turn at the top of the backswing.
► Top of the Golf Swing Drill - Video Golf Lesson Summary
- Hold a golf club on its side against your shoulders with your hands and set up as you normally would for a golf shot.
- Rotate your hips and shoulders back until you reach the top of the swing position, where you can no longer coil back or approximately until your back faces the target (if you can).
- If you are doing it correctly, the end of your club should be pointing towards the ball in your stance. Your knees should retain some of the flex you set at address but neither one should collapse. The weight of your body should rest mostly on the inside of your back - right - foot.
- Collapsing your left knee while swinging the club back will throw your hips out of position and it will result in the club not pointing towards the ball at the top. This position would result in unreliable uncoiling during the downswing and the weight transfer not being as effective as it can be.
