In the infamous revolt of the British Celtic Iceni tribe and it's allies in 60-61ad, Governor Suetonius Paulinus fought a desperate battle with only c.10,000 men of the XIV and XX Legions against a reputed 100,000 tribesmen and women somewhere in the midlands. He won.
Curiously, according to Roman sources, the IInd Legion (then under it's 3rd-in-command, Poenius Postumus), based in Exeter, south-west Britain, failed/refused/were unable to march to join their comrades against the rebels. Postumus later committed suicide...
But why? Was it a cover-up? What was the truth?
