Australia will call on the European Union to release millions of coronavirus vaccines which it paid for but never received after supply chains from were disrupted earlier in the year.
On Wednesday Prime Minister Scott Morrison insisted he was not seeking to criticise the European Union but instead point out the supply controversy comes down to "simple facts".
“It’s straightforward maths - 3.1 million out of 3.8 million doses did not come to Australia,” he said.
In late January the European Union introduced an export ban on vaccines which was broadened later in March and prevented 250,000 doses reaching Australia last month.
Mr Morrison’s comments yesterday responded to a spokesperson for the European Union who addressed the vaccine shortfall in Australia pointing out there had been no “new decision to block vaccine exports to Australia."
