Jungfrau Exit in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
Wingsuit BASE jumping is what some would say as extreme as you can get. Although I feel that flying a paraglider or speed wing is the closest thing to actually being a bird... proxy flying a wingsuit close to terrain is unlike anything else on this planet. It is extremely addicting and definitely dangerous. However, with the correct background and training it can actually be relatively safe.
I have been skydiving since 2002 and flying wingsuits since 2004, back before wing suits were pressurized like paragliders. It used to just be a flap of material between your arms and legs that added glide when pulled taunt. Now the whole suit pressurizes as you get air flow across the suit, and it stays ridged as you flex and move your arms and legs. Which makes for a safer and easier deployment. Pretty neat watching the engineering that has gone into wing suits over the last few decades that has really changed the game.
This flight is in Europe, where it is legal to fly wingsuits from mountains. So the video is crisp, from a beautiful sunshiny summer day. We did three flights on this particular day from the same exit but riding the tram up the back side of the mountain. Gotta love Europe and their attitude to extremes sports - your body your choice!
