Ayutthaya, the empire that united a country through war. In this vlog we check out some of the temples situated in the centre of the city that were a huge part of the history of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.
First stop is Wat Mahathat, famed for the depictions of the Buddha that decorated the walls for centuries.
Then we make our way to Wat Ratcha Burana, with its huge, well preserved Prang at the centre of a fallen temple. It sits atop the site of the cremation of two Princes that killed each other in a bloody battle for the throne.
Lastly we visit Wat Phra Si Sanphet which was built where the Royal Palace stood before the King moved to a new palace and dedicated the site to be a new temple.
The Ayutthaya Kingdom's capital was attacked in a conflict with Burma that left the city in flames and temples detroyed in the year 1767.
*I have to apologise for the footage. It was an insanely hot day and the camera couldn't cope with the immense humidity. I've switched cameras now so it won't be an issue in the future.*
