After a total of 2120km ridden so far and having cycled 254km the day before, this will be a testing day. By this point in the race, we expect to see Astana really controlling the peloton to make sure that Nibali remains in pink.
The first climb is a steady 3.8% ascent to Sestriere, and as such will be fast. On the way down, there's a 28km descent, which will be even faster.
The final climb of today's stage hasn't been used since Eddy Merckx soloed to victory in the pink jersey in 1972, but we expect to see a lightweight climber making a good go of it today.
