Health authorities are working to track down close contacts of a Sydney high school student who tested positive to COVID-19.

A letter was sent to parents at Saint Ignatius College Riverview confirming a Year 7 boy had tested positive for the virus.

The prestigious Catholic boarding school will remain shut for 48 hours as it undergoes a deep clean.

Students will revert to a virtual timetable from today.
