Lieutenant General Stanislaw Maczek

Maczek was the only Allied officer in command of a tank unit from the start of the war in Poland in 1939 to VE Day in 1945. Before WWII, Maczek was one of the most experienced commanders in Europe. He had fought in WWI, the Polish war against Ukrainian nationalists claiming part of Poland, and the Polish-Soviet War of 1919-21.
