Mom: Redwood Queen #190, hatched in LA Zoo in 1998, 22y.o.
Dad: Phoenix #477, hatched in Big Sur in 2008, 13y.o.
Redwood Queen lost her mate of 14 years, Kingpin #167, in the Dolan Fire of 2020. She paired with Phoenix #477 and laid an egg around 2/26/2021. The egg is expected to hatch on or around 4/24/2021.
The pair nests in a natural Redwood tree cavity. "The inside of the nest cavity is approximately 4-5 feet wide. The cavity entrance is south-facing and about 60 feet above ground less than a mile from the Pacific Ocean. Judging by the size of this one, it could be over 500 years old!"
