The panel with live contributions from speakers in Canberra, Lueneburg, The Hague and Montevideo, describes educational initiatives for inter- and trans-disciplinarity and research implementation.
Panelists are: Linda Neuhauser (USA; Co-ordinator and Chair), Marcel Bursztyn (Brazil), Daniel Lang (Germany), Cha-aim Pachanee (Thailand), Gideon Shimshon (Netherlands), John van Breda (South Africa) and Bianca Vienni (Uruguay).
Linda Neuhauser is Clinical Professor of Community Health and Human Development at the University of California, Berkeley, USA and Co-Principal Investigator at Health Research for Action. Her research and teaching are focused on transdisciplinary, translational, and participatory approaches to improve health interventions.
Marcel Bursztyn works at the University of Brasília in Brazil, where he is a professor in the Center for Sustainable Development. His main fields of interest are regional development, sustainable development, environmental policy, interdisciplinarity, perceptions of climate change, and ethical issues in research.
Daniel Lang is a professor in Transdisciplinary Sustainability Research at the Faculty Sustainability, Leuphana University of Lüneburg, Germany, as well as Dean of the Faculty Sustainability. His research areas are transdisciplinary and transformative research, sustainability science, and systemic assessment of human-environment systems.
Cha-aim Pachanee is a researcher at the International Health Policy Program, Ministry of Public Health in Thailand. She is particularly interested in the areas of international trade in health services, human resources for health, health systems and health policies, global health, and environmental health.
Gideon Shimshon is Director of the University of Leiden's Centre for Innovation in the Hague in the Netherlands. He is motivated by his passion for learning and research innovation and enjoys developing new tools and methods for understanding and solving tough problems on governance issues.
John Van Breda from Stellenbosch University in South Africa is the project manager of the Transdisciplinary, Sustainability, Analysis, Modelling and Assessment Hub (TsamaHub), which involves conceptualising and implementing the first transdisciplinary doctoral programme in sustainability studies in South Africa.
Bianca Vienni is Assistant Professor at the Academic Department of Espacio Interdisciplinario (Universidad de la República, Uruguay). Her research interests include the dynamics of interdisciplinary work, scientific democratization and communication in collaborative, cross-disciplinary research.
The First Global Conference on Research Integration and Implementation was held in Canberra in Australia, online and at three co-conferences (Lueneburg in Germany, The Hague in the Netherlands and Montevideo in Uruguay), 8-11 September 2013.
