Surfline is the world's first surf report service. Sean Collins was the planet's first ocean swell forecaster.
It all started in 1985 with a pay-per-call telephone surf report.
After dialing 976-SURF, surfers were able to listen to a 90-second recorded message with valuable information on the wave conditions for some of the best spots in Southern California.
Each call cost 55 cents, and there were two daily reports - one at 7:15 am, and another one at 2:15 pm.
In 1995, Surfline went online and started providing live surf cams and long-range surf forecasts.
This is the story of surfing's most popular wave prediction website.
