Temporary Support Center for Ukraine – an aid center for brothers and sisters from across the eastern border, created spontaneously here, near Opole, at the end of February 2022 by the ordinary men out of concern for another human being. Wait for the day when the sirens stop and the last dust settles, they have left their hearts here, and they offered so much more than just the material help for the ones who are in need, the guests from every corner of Ukraine: from Lviv to Lugansk, from Chernihiv to Crimea.
Since March, the center has been under the care of the Polish Red Cross, which, along with the selfless work of dedicated volunteers and volunteers, organizes help for the most needy - food, chemicals, children's articles and clothing.
During a visit to TOWU, each person receives coffee or tea and a hot meal on request. From February 24, over three thousand volunteers have worked in the center. Many of them were Ukrainians themselves.
TOWU covers an area of 7,000 square meters and is divided into departments according to the needs of our guests. It tries to make them feel like in a shop and to choose what they need most.
Since the opening of the center, assistance has been provided over 100,000 times. It was received by over 30 thousand people in need. Shipments to the front had been organized as well, supporting dozens of non-governmental organizations and ensuring 100 food transfers to Ukraine. But it's not just about numbers. TOWU changed the lives of many of their members connected by caring for another human being. It created a family - it is here that an extraordinary bond was born between people of different nations, based on friendship, care and hope. A bond no war, no bomb or rocket could ever destroy. Ever.
