New-Zealand-based Chapter2 is a company still in its relative infancy and best known for its performance carbon road bikes, such as the Tere and Rere. The brand’s creator, Michael Pryde, may be a familiar name, and that’s because Michael is the son of Neil Pryde, and previously had a line of high-performance carbon bikes under his father’s name. Hence the new brand, Chapter2.
The AO marks the company’s entry into the gravel world. AO, meaning Earth in Maori. It’s a bike that really embodies the all-rounded, go almost anywhere versatility aspect of a good gravel bike. It offers plenty of performance through its light, stiff and comfortable carbon chassis, while clever features throughout add versatility.
Tech editor Dave Rome spent a few months onboard the AO, long enough to play with various wheelsets, hidden frame features and just generally get to know this Kiwi-fruit-coloured bike well.
