The Australian’s Editor-at-Large Paul Kelly says while it is clear Michael McCormack “failed as a leader,” there is “certainly a risk” in bringing Barnaby Joyce back to leadership.
On Tuesday Barnaby Joyce was sworn in as leader of the Nationals and deputy prime minister of Australia.
It comes a day after Michael McCormack was ousted in a leadership spill.
Mr Kelly said there’s “certainly a risk” bringing Barnaby Joyce back to the leadership.
“The dilemma for the government overall, is whether this means that the Nationals will be stronger, that they’ll have a more popular banner, but whether the Morrison government overall will be weakened”.
“Now, that’s the risk”.
