Almaty - February 3 - In men’s biathlon pursuit, Russian athletes took all the top places
1 Gold: Sergey Korastylev (Russia) – 32:08.3 (0 penalty laps)
2 Silver: Dmitriy Ivanov (Russia) – 32:19.2 (3)
3 Bronze: Semen Suchilov (Russia) – 32:26.9 (2)
On February 3, two sets of medals were awarded in men’s biathlon. The main competition was between Semen Suchilov, Dmitriy Ivanov and Sergey Korastylev. All three athletes have already won medals in this year’s Universiade. Suchilov was the first to start being the winner of sprint.
Some aspects of the race were changed because of the weather. Before the start of the race, it began raining. Soon it became chilly and foggy. The trail became icy and slippery.
Places in top three were defined by the shooting round. Korastylev hit all the targets and was first to finish. Ivanov followed him in 11 seconds. Semen Suchilov was final in top three. Another Russian athlete, Eduard Latypov, came fourth.
Among the Kazakhstani athletes, Anton Panov was the quickest. He came seventh. Roman Yeryomin and Vassiliy Podkorytov were number eight and nine respectively. Not all the athletes finished the race successfully. 15 of them were terminated early because of an increasing time gap.
After the flower ceremony, the winners commented on the results of the race. All athletes frowned about the weather. Dmitriy Ivanov, however, liked such weather.
Sergey Korastylev was surprised with his physical form.
“Everyone needs time to get used to the climate. I usually feel better only after eight days. I had expected the previous days to be difficult. Surprisingly, I felt all right,” he said.
“Sergey will probably be the fastest in mass start,” said Suchilov jokingly.
Now the athletes are waiting for mixed relay and mass start.
