Michael Catalano: The Gambino Family Soldier with Ties to Angelo Bruno
In this episode of Real Mob Stories with James Proctor, we explore the life of Michael "Mike" Catalano, a long-standing soldier in the Gambino crime family. Born in 1918 in New York City, Mike Catalano lived at 248 Mulberry Street, right across from the infamous Ravenite Social Club. He was inducted into the Gambino family during the 1950s when Albert Anastasia was boss, with Armand "Tommy" Rava as his sponsor. Rava was a loyalist to Anastasia and a close friend and mentor to Neil Dellacroce.Mike Catalano often hung out at the Ravenite Social Club, serving as a low-key soldier in Neil Dellacroce’s Manhattan crew, primarily running bookmaking operations. In 1970, Catalano was arrested on charges of tax evasion, criminal contempt, and possession of firearms. He went to trial alongside Neil Dellacroce and Philly mob boss Angelo Bruno. Catalano was business partners with Bruno in a Dominican casino scheme.
In 1986, after Frank DeCicco was killed, Catalano was seen at his wake at the Scarpaci Funeral Home on 86th Street in Bensonhurst. Mike Catalano was a soldier under Joe "the Cat" LaForte Sr. and remained active in the Gambino family until his death. Mike Catalano passed away at his home in 1998.
