Jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny will gradually end his three-week-long hunger strike after claiming to be losing feeling in parts of his arms and legs.
In an Instagram post published by his lawyers, Navalny said he was still demanding to be seen by a doctor of his choosing.
It will take Navalny 24 days to gradually end the strike which began in protest against prison conditions.
His worsening health has triggered a diplomatic offensive from Western nations with the US threatening "consequences" if Navalny dies in Russian custody.
