Gitlow v. New York, 268 U.S. 652 (1925). This decision incorporated the First Amendment free speech right into the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment. This was the first incorporation.

Shelby County v. Holder, 570 U.S. 529 (2013), Republican Justices hold that certain provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to be unconstitutional. This was a 5 to 4 decision. The 5 Republican Justices were in the majority.

There was no mention of incorporation in any newspaper when Congress discussed the passage or when the states ratified the Amendment except for a brief reference in a New York Times article titled "The Proposed Constitutional Amendment - What Ir Provides", published on 11/15/1866. The Supreme Court met between 1860 to 1935 in the "Old Senate Chamber" that was located in the U.S. Capital near where the Senate and House met to discuss the 14th Amendment.
