New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has denied any wrongdoing by having a secret relationship with disgraced former MP Daryl Maguire.
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell today pushed Ms Berejiklian on why she never thought to correct Mr Maguire or report his behaviour after phone recordings played at the ICAC hearing on Monday revealed he informed her of a number of his actions, including details of his financial position.
“I have always acted in the best interests of the people of this state, I've not done anything wrong and the matters you raise have already been looked at by the integrity body,” Ms Berejiklian responded.
“Had I known any wrongdoing was done at any stage I would have not have hesitated to act and I have acted very swiftly when I needed to and I am the first to put up my hand and admit but I haven't done anything wrong.”
“At all times I have maintained a distinction between my personal and private life and the public office I hold.”
Mr Clennell further probed the premier as to why she believed her actions were acceptable.
“At the end of the day, what guides us in this place are the rules that are in this place. MPs, depending on the office they hold, have restrictions but they also have obligations in relation to the way they conduct their business,” she said.
