Redwood Queen #190 tragically lost Kingpin #167, her mate of 14 years, in the Dolan fire of 2020.
Lots of speculation going on over who she will pick as her next mate. Will she remain single? Will she lay another egg this upcoming spring?
Redwood Queen and Phoenix sit together in companionable silence at the watering hole.
This is the 16th time she is spotted in Big Sur on the same day as Phoenix #477, who is paired with Pinnacles condor #547 (F).
Phoenix #477 and #547 successfully raised their first chick, Madeline #936, in 2018. However, it turned out that #936 was fathered by another condor, #209 Shadow. #477 and #547 did not produce offspring in 2020.
Just like Redwood Queen's daughter Iniko #1031, Phoenix survived the devastating Basin Complex wildfire in 2008, protected by another giant 180ft tall Redwood tree [ Ссылка ]
