This is a question that comes up from time to time, about a patient's fitness for surgery based on age. Can a patient be too young for artificial disc replacement? I'll give you the example of one of my youngest patients. She is 16 years old when she injured her back playing soccer. The disc was implanted a year later. She is a police officer now and has no issues with the disc. There are some exceptions, but in my opinion, there are no age limits (young or old) for artificial disc replacement surgery.

Dr. Lanman graduated from Northwestern University School of Medicine, Chicago, IL with top honors and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a general surgery internship and neurological surgery residency at UCLA. He is an active member of many professional societies and organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS), North American Spine Society (NASS), and Fellow American College of Surgeons.
