Alexis Santiago and Erik Ruiz battled for 10 rounds of non-stop action on Toe-to-Toe Tuesdays February 16, 2016 on PBC on FS1.
Santiago and Ruiz shared almost the exact same stats in height, weight, reach and wins, but most notably, they both shared a tenacious pace in the rounds.
The two set the pace early, both stepping towards, not away from each other punches. Compubox stated that of Santiago (330) and Ruiz's (186) 516 combined landed punches in the 10 round bout, 412 were power shots.
Santiago connected with a higher percentage of punches throughout the rounds, with a connecting percentage hovering around 35%.
With 90+ punches being thrown each round, Santiago was able to score more points on the judges score cards by landing a bevy of jabs and connecting those with hooks as the rounds progressed.
Ruiz was by no means a pushover. He stood toe to toe with Santiago and dished out combinations that broke down, but did not rattle Santiago.
After 10 rounds of action it went to the score cards and the judges favored Santiago in a UD.
