Recently, the list of the winners of the "2023 World Pedestrian Bridge Awards" was officially announced. The Guangzhou Haixin Bridge, constructed by CREC, won the only gold medal of the prestigious award this year. The global authoritative award in the field of pedestrian bridges is given every two years to honor designs, construction, and technical personnel of pedestrian bridges around the world.
The Haixin Bridge is Guangzhou's first pedestrian bridge across the Pearl River, located in the core area of Guangzhou's Zhujiang New Town CBD, with a total length of 488 meters, a main arch span of 198 meters, and a maximum width of 15 meters on the bridge deck. It is currently the world's largest span and widest curved-girder and oblique-arch pedestrian bridge. Its unique design incorporates elements of Cantonese Opera costumes, with the arch of the bridge integrating the shape of a Guqin (a seven-stringed Chinese musical instrument) to perfectly blend Cantonese cultural imagery with modern design.
Haixin Bridge has already won many awards, including the "IABSE Award for Pedestrian and Cycle Bridges" from the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) in 2022, and the highest award for Asia Lighting Design Awards-"the Award Of Asian Light" in 2022.
