In the second episode of the Bucket List, a show made for and by the hoops dreamers of the world, capturing the journey of a basketball obsessed team checking off once in a lifetime hoop experiences, we returned for day 2 of our trip to Corcoran State Prison. With the help of@betweenthelines4506 ,the @hoopbusand @nickbrizFullwe experienced life from the inside on Day 1, but on Day 2, we got the real life 'Longest Yard' welcome, running 5v5 against inmates on the jail yard!
Special thanks go out to all the people who made the trip possible. The prisoners and Corcoran Staff for opening their doors and minds to us, Tory Stapleton and Danny Duncan from Between the Lines, Actively Black for sponsorship, all the hoopers including 3x NBA Champ Danny Green for bringing light to dark places, and all the media staff on the pre and post end.
We encourage all to think about supporting resources that help convicts assimilate back into society, and on a more active level, to consider our perspectives on justice and forgiveness. We hope in viewing this video to share a different side of a narrative that media focuses on in illustrating jail. In 2 days, the power of basketball and shared experience brought forth more unity than can be described, as cliques and factions deemed separate worked together in pursuit of a common goal. Much the same, the distinction between prisoners and visitors faded through the visit. Everyone has a story, redeeming qualities, and connection to others which make them valuable, and prisoners are no different, so we hope this video challenges your perspectives on who prisoners are and inspires you to practice empathy to all people, especially those who are the most isolated.
