Difference between volume, project, and emotion.
Volume can be too high, but only based on your microphone set up. If you are too loud the recording will start clipping, resulting in quality loss.
Projection is about making your voice crisp, clean, and understandable.
Emotion is the flavor you add to that language. It can operate independent of volume and projection. For example you can say ‘are you kidding me’ in a low, quiet voice and still communicate frustration.
To answer your question specifically, you can get definitely too loud when recording if you’re in close on your microphone and screaming. If, however, you display anger and get louder with strong projection, that could come across in the recording really cleanly.
The best advice here is to play with each component separately. Try to isolate each of these factors so you can play with them and control the levers. At the end, you’ll be able to craft the type of recording you want.
Hopefully, that helps you explain the differences between those components and how to use them together.
