This animation is about a Real Leptospirosis case I encountered during my training at Medical ICU. I talk about Microbiology, The initial symptoms, Complications & treatments for the disease. The causative bacteria are Leptospira, a zoonotic species that spread via the urine of infected rats, dogs & cattle. During the Immunological phase, the body produces antibodies against the pathogen. But these antibodies also attack the Liver, Kidneys & Other organs including blood vessels. The gold standard test is the Microscopic Agglutination test. The diagnosis is mainly clinical, & needs prompt treatment with Antibiotics (Cephalosporins, Penicillin). We arranged urgent Plasma exchange (plasmapheresis) for this patient as he developed severer pulmonary hemorrhages.
