New York Governor Kathy Hochul has been slammed for claiming black children living in the Bronx borough don’t know what the word “computer” is.
“Right now we have, you know, young Black kids growing up in the Bronx who don’t even know what the word ‘computer’ is, they don’t know, they don’t know these things,” she said.
Hochul made the bold comments during the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles, California on Monday.
The Governor’s comments came as she spoke about Empire AI, a $US400 million artificial intelligence computing centre.
Hochul faced backlash following her comments, particularly from South Bronx Assembly Member Amanda Septimo.
Septimo posted to X following Hochul’s comments, labelling them as “genuinely appalling".
