NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet says the man set to be his new Labor counterpart will “probably pull a hammy” moving from the backbench to the chamber in the wake of a cabinet reshuffle.
NSW Shadow Transport Minister Chris Minns on Wednesday announced his decision to step down from the frontbench and said he currently has no plans to challenge NSW Labor leader Jodi McKay.
The frontrunner for the Shadow Treasury portfolio is Michael Daley who was previously leader of the Opposition in NSW from 2018-2019.
Mr Perrottet said the Labor Party in NSW was a “shamble” and needed to move beyond their own political bickering.
“You’ve got a situation now where your better talent is on their backbench. Their idea of generational change is going back to bringing forward a shadow treasurer,” he said.
“When you are meant to be looking after the people of NSW they’re in their infighting and at war and they’ve got to stop focusing on themselves”.
Speaking of Mr Daley Mr Perrottet said “he’s been on the bench for a couple of years so he’ll probably pull a hammy when he gets up to the chamber."
Mr Daley backed Ms Mckay's leadership after Shadow NSW Treasurer Walt Secord resigned after Labor's poor performance at the Upper Hunter by-election.
