On Thursday, services in Japan and around the world honoured the lives lost and highlighted the danger posed by nuclear weapons on the 75th anniversary of the Hiroshima attack.
Pope Francis has described the existence of the weapons as “a crime not only against the dignity of human beings, but against any possible future for our common home”.
It is estimated there are around 14,000 nuclear weapons in existence which are owned by the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, France, India, Pakistan, China, North Korea and Israel.
