Sunday, January 30th 1972.
Footage of the aftermath of what came to be known as "Bloody Sunday" when troops of the Parachute Regiment of the British Army opened fire on demonstrators from the Roman Catholic community in Derry (then Londonderry), Northern Ireland. Thirteen unarmed civilians were killed (one later died of his wounds).
Among those interviewed is Lieutenant Colonel Derek Wilford, Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion Parachute Regiment.
The army was cleared of responsiblity after the report prepared by the tribunal chaired by Lord Widgery in 1972. The Widgery Report was however considered to be a "whitewash" and the Saville Report of 2010 concluded that the killings were "unjustified and unjustifiable". The then serving British Prime Minister, David cameron issued an apology on behalf of the United Kingdom.
