This video shows a typical example of a chaotic system, the double pendulum. You can see two double pendulum dynamics simulations performed on Matlab. On the left is a simulation where the initial position of the base joint is at 130degrees. On the right is a simulation where the initial position of the base joint is at 129degrees.
The purpose is to show how a minute variation in the initial conditions led to a major shift in the trajectory of the pendulum (butterfly effect). This shift can be distinguished after 7 seconds.
For chaotic systems, and even thou the system is deterministic, small differences in initial conditions yield diverging outcomes which makes the prediction of the trajectory almost impossible on the long term.
