He instructs that once AV Fistula is done, the incision stays fresh, so after the surgery, one has to save it from getting wet for another 24 to 48 hours. After two days the wound can be left open or waterproof dressing is applied for another five days. He informs that it is very important to maintain the hygiene of the fistula or where the fistula is made. He highlights the importance of regularly visiting the vascular consultant in the third week and then in the week to check the maturation of the fistula .
